Stretching / Exercise
Exercise can improve mood, lift depression, boost self-esteem, lessen anxiety and help us cope better with stress. It is divided into the following groups:
Cardiovascular – Aerobic exercise oxygenates the muscles and enables the heart to pump more efficiently as in jogging
- Muscular endurance. This is a build up with repeated exercising of large muscle groups as in circuit training or swimming.
- Muscular strength. This is developed with anaerobic exercise, as in weight lifting or tennis, which consists of bursts of intense activity.
- Flexibility. This is the stretching of muscles as in golf or yoga. It stops connective tissue shortening and tightening, this prevents muscles being torn or pulled, boosts muscle strength and tone. It helps with circulation, increased energy and flexibility and body awareness.
